I'd read all four before I even read any of Lois' books, let alone ACC.  I 
remember when I got ACC reading the dedication, working out who the people 
were (though I wasn't sure if Charlotte was Bronte or Yonge!) and thinking 
"yes, that makes a lot of sense".
