In reference to Aral's size vs. presence, Stewart Dean wrote:

Oh, yeah!  Remember the garden sparing match in "Barrayar" in which the
guards practiced and Bothari won handily.

Then Aral and Bothari showed the guards what "real" sparing was like to the
point of a dislocated shoulder.
