Agreed.  But for people who are using e-mail tools that don't support easy
symbol insertion, it can be a prohibitive pain.

When I tried to puzzle through one of Lois's recent responses, I had a
really hard time picking out her interspersed comments from the quoted
material.  It's been even worse with a few others.  For Lois, I would rather
she spent her time writing a sentence or three of the next book than spend
time putting "> " at the beginning of each line by hand.

Perhaps the >>>>>>>>>>  <<<<<<<<<<< method will work quickly and easily
enough to be adopted by those who don't have tools or time to make the
line-by-line "> " insertions.  I know I got really tired of doing that until
I decided to make a couple of macros to make the job very easy.
