This is a lot more obvious as
a quote than anything other
than "> " at the beginning of
each line.

And, it's fast and easy.

I'm going to Sherwood a bunch of replies since they all apply to typography
and list manners.

I'll give this carat-thing a shot for quoting; I don't want to hand-carat
everything, either. But I will try to keep the quoting to the absolute
minimum.

(-: I got a great giggle out of the question, "What *is* the proper
etiquette for posting?" (top or bottom?) I wanted to ask that myself -- so
far, I see one definitely stating top-posting, and more stating bottom. LOL!
Dissent in the ranks! My personal preference is for top-posting, but I want
to follow the "rules" of the list. Or at least the conventions.

And one final comment. Regarding "why would anyone bother with digests when
you can use files?" I live out in the country, and since last June, I've
been bothered by a lot of spam. My server (or something) is constantly
cutting out before I get my mail -- and I usually download it once or twice
a day. I don't want to be getting a bunch of itty-bitty mails -- the digest
seems to count as one, and I can get that much further along the line,
before the server cuts out.

As for files, my computer has all of its instructions and prompts in
Japanese. I should probably bite the bullet, and learn how to read computer
Japanese, but I have a full-time job, children, and an addiction to good
books and good internet conversation. Reading computer Japanese goes way
down at the bottom of my list. So, I pay the price of not-filing quite
willingly -- a few minutes of frustration maybe twice a month, vs. several
hours of frustrating and boring study.
