Just make sure you go for the PC software (Windows only) conversion
program, otherwise it's something like 10 cents per book if you do it
via the Amazon service.
Of course, there are other E-readers out there (the main competitors
being the Sony, and the Cybook) that use the same e-ink screen (thus
look great), but are potentially (a) cheaper, and (b) better looking
than the Kindle (debatable, but I know the Sony is sleeker. Not sure
about the Cybook). And they are able to take PDFs and text directly
without conversion on external memory cards. (Get one compatible with
your camera, so just in case you fill your camera's card, you have
some "emergency storage" for those once-in-a-lifetime shots that will
happen when your camera isn't ready).
