our heroine left a farm and is passing a well station - less than an inn,
more than a farm. so its pre-industrial as we know it, though the people
are industrious. nice enough folks, if fawn had a few rides without even
worrying that a man alone might want to grope a woman alone. (although
perhaps she looks too young to be molested? i doubt it.)
literacy was mentioned already. but fawns attitude seems to be, what's a
smart girl like me doing in a situation like this? being a fairly smart
person myself, i want details about her situation and how she was duped into
it. surely if she had awareness of danger she wouldn't have walked right
into it?
a fat farm cat is only a sign that there are lots of mice, a lazy fat farm
cat who doesn't run from or bristle at strangers is the sign of a happy
home.
the farmwife's worry that she is traveling alone shows that people (just
girls?) are expected to travel in numbers for safety, especially since
there's a hint of bandit activity. there doesn't seem to be much
animal-oriented danger, beyond mosquitoes etc.
fawn thinks the farmwife is really old. i wonder how old she really was,
and what is the expected lifespan on this world? at what age do people
generally marry, and how old/young are grandparents?

unlike fawn, if he had awareness of danger he would head straight for it -
still patrolling after he lost his hand!
he's more intrested in fawn than his patrol - he headed straight for her
tree, but didn't look at her. we don't even know he knew seh was there
until he left and mentions her spark, and wonders why she hid. that's
slightly creepy, that you can't hide from someone who is scaring you, and
don't even knowt hat he knows wehre you are.
