rhyme with "hoedown," and interpreting it as putting aside weapons for the  
evening, others said it differently.  And that patroller ideas of  entertainment 
had a lot in common with farmer ideas, except possibly for the  patrollers' 
freedom of who went with whom at the end of the evening.

That it was not at all overdone.  It was important to the story, but  not 
made to seem like the only important thing.
