I was typing an answer to this but then saw Mark give you an
answer that covered most of what I was about to say.
What is it that you want to use it for? Knowing that might help
us point you in the right direction. Be aware that the signal to
noise ratio is often poor in newsgroups and that trolls abound
in some of them. That's not to say that there isn't good stuff
there too, it just takes some searching to find it sometimes.

Rec.arts.sf.* I pretty much ran out of time to read that stuff
quite a while ago. I don't have time to read all of what comes
via e-mail, and that has a much higher rate of interesting vs.
junk content.
