iTunes will play MP3s.  iTunes will not put DRM into *your* files.  File 
bought from the iTunes store are DRMed.  However, Apple has seen the 
light, and a lot of newer stuff is not only not protected, it is in a 
higher-quality format (but better quality makes for bigger files :(  )
