There must be some mythstake.

What happens to all his or her characters, that seem so vivid, more
vital than many people, when their progenitor dies? When you get used
to book after book, year after year, when they become part of /you/,
when a joy is finding someone sharp and witty enough to share the
author's ouevre with....Heinlein, Francis, O'Brien, Asprin and thanks to
you of the list, Heyer.

Heinlein had a short story, maybe in the collection /Tne Unpleasant
Profession of/ whoeveritwas, of an alternate universe meta
fantasy/scifi-fi con where all the characters mingle, tell their lies
and hoist the mug

Chuck Jones penned so many of the wonderful cartoons of my youth, Mel
Blanc voiced them: Tweety Bird, Slyvester, Foghorn Chicken, Peepy Le
Pew, Porky Pig (and his th-th-th-that's all Folks) just to name a few.
Chuck Jones (now gone himself) had, after Mel's death, penned a cartoon:
it showed all the characters that Mel had voiced in a huddled group,
silent with their heads bowed. At the other side was a microphone in a
spotlight with nobody there. At the bottom were the words Mel Blanc and
his dates
