I'd like to add one more thing to "take" -- a thyroid test. I'll be brief,
since I was in denial of my own hypothyroidism and am now an annoying (but
harmless) convert, but one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism is increased
sensitivity to cold, or always feeling cold. I thought that my cold
sensitivity was being a Texan transplanted to the Frozen Wastelands of
New Hampshire... Not entirely, as it happens.

The values in the range of "normal" that I like most are here:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003684.htm (TSH)
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003687.htm (T3)
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003517.htm (T4)
When getting tested, always make sure to get the numbers. There
are still labs out there which may consider "normal" to include
numbers which are "hypo" by these definitions, for instance.

And now I will skitter off.
