Actually, I receive the list undigested and it looks like e acute
to me.

Me too since the list sent it out as :-

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

which is almost Latin-1 so includes the Western accented characters.

The digest could do the same by an explicit translation of every email into
a common character set, whether iso-8859-1 or UTF-8 or users's choice.
