It's actually more a kidney issue than anything else... A diet high in
protein places a lot of stress on the kidneys, and a lot of diabetics
have somewhat compromised kidney function already.

Any diet that has you testing for urine ketones every day to be sure
you are maintaining mild ketosis, is going to be hard on the kidneys.
