Most recently, I have greatly enjoyed Alison Weir's two historical
fiction novels, "Innocent Traitor" (about Lady Jane Grey) and "The
Lady Elizabeth" (Elizabeth 1 from toddlerhood through when she was
crowned queen.) The stories obviously have a lot of similarity, but
the protagonists are quite different. The last scene of "Innocent
Traitor" is a punch in the gut.

Weir is a historian of the period and published numerous non-fiction
books on these two young women and their times before turning to
fictionalized accounts of the same. A sequel to "The Lady Elizabeth"
is expected.
