It is my understanding that to 'run a gantlet' means to participate in
the 
Iroquois method of enlivening a dull Saturday night. A gauntlet, on the 
other hand, is a large, metalled glove,

I don't mind whether people run gantlets, gauntlets, or gantlets OF
gauntlets. I figured it was parallel to the colo(u)r spelling variant
and such.

Running the gamut vs. running the gauntlet, OTOH, annoys me deeply.
