In my experience, yes and no.  Yes, the imperative *need* for them to go is gone, and they tend to become way more snuggly and heat-loving - my post-neutered tom loves to sprawl in the sun for hours at a time now, where prior to his operation, he never sat in one spot longer than a half an hour.  On the other hand, cats are creatures of habit, and nothing will satisfy him if he doesn't inspect the borders of 'his' territory every evening, the way he always has.
