Remember, she says this in her mid-30s but we see her giving sage advice as late as her mid 60's.

There are other possibilities: 
- her view of herself at 33 was formed when she was in her late teens;
- she grew and learned;
- what was inept or out-of-place on Beta works on Barrayar;
- not being heavily involved in a situation gave her better perspective;
- some of what she was asked about (cf Drou & Kou) was familiar territory.
