Maybe the nonutilitarian merchants kick in some cash? They did seem to 
have some sort of deal with a woodworker to make Dag's prosthetic cup.

It would be in the best interest of the town leaders to make sure that 
the cost-burden was shared evenly between the merchants and residents.
