personally, i find that the battle scenes are harsh but impersonal - deadly, certainly, but its a group thing.
whereas ryoval is fine-tuning the torture to fit mark's most painful spots. that's where the difference is.
its sort of the difference between a general brawl, with possible broken ribs and other bones, and someone looking at a cripple and deciding to bring a metal stick down on the weakest point of hte injured limb. (as in one dick francis book)
