The OED says "cemetery" was in use before 1600, first use of "graveyard"
1773.

Some differentiation of meaning too since there may be only tombs,
catacombs, ossuaries, groves of remembrance and urns with ashes - no actual
graves.

The texev is that all funerals on Barrayar are cremations is it not ?
