Speaking as someone who regularly listens to his own tape of CoC, I
must say that I haven't noticed anything bad or painful about the
reading at all.
Christmas Day is being spent in a Hobbittean state of nature.
Barefoot, well-fed and vaguely contemplative, in other words.
Much preferable to that nasty, brutish and short stuff.
