Leaving high tech democracies aside for now, a number of low tech
societies have deep democratic traditions - they tend to be very, very
hard to displace or assimilate. Societies where -everyone- needs to be
able to fight can be very (male-)*egalitarian... prime examples would
be the Pashtuns and the Chechens. How they deal with deep stress?
Well, there's no shortage of data points there...
