John: Depends on species. As poor John Hurt in *Alien* makes graphically
clear, *one* source of mpreg is the old Darwinian argument about the
Ichneumonidae, that family of Hymenoptera with very long thin bodies and an
ovipositor they use to place their eggs within the bodies of paralysed but
still living larvae and pupae -- of both (putative) genders. When the eggs
hatch they chew their way out.

John> For a near-perfect treatment in fiction, see Octavia E. Butler's short
story "Bloodchild", in a collection of the same name.
