The LMB Tea Table is set and shining with

the very best for the seasonal centerpiece, and James finds his birthday

present near his teacup. The wrapping is of a remarkable paper that mimics a

herringbone fabric; it also incorporates a pleasing pattern of pheasants and

peasants, dancing through harvested fields. Oddly, the paper smells of curry;

perhaps Ekaterin has been keeping it in the spice cupboard.
He opens it with delight and inside is . .

. a pair of L-passes? Yes, a pair of L-passes! Each pass grants the bearer to

eight hours in any library in time, space or imagination and the right to copy

one work (book, CD, scroll or Cetagandan scent-coded decorative duvets) from

that library. With a swing of Tixie dust, we send the very best birthday wishes

to James!
(Um, has anyone seen Miles? I’d like to

have a word with him about the presents.)
