 Silent Generation, like me. "No conscious memory of the Great Crash of 1929."  What the management manuals call "Pre-Boomer" or "Traditional" or "Veterans" and lump us in with our GI predecessors. 

BTW, and on topic for Bujold, Gregor is an absolutely classic Silent. I SO recognize him as One Of Us!
