may i suggest model railroading 8)

if you have a garden, a garden railroad

google on YouTube for g-scale or LGB garden railroads

if you dont have a garden, N or Z scale are to be preferred

if you want him out of the house for extended periods, club level glider flying
is a wonderful time sink
