There is a quote attributed to the acerbic Dorthy Parker (1893-1967) that goes: 

"This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”

An alternate version has “book”; however, nobody has found the original and it is generally considered to be a misattribution.
