But Aral could not or would not take that into account. Vordarian and high ranking subordinates
 had to die and they knew it. IIRC there was one rebellious Count who suicided rather than surrender
and the rest of his forces surrendered.

If you surrender whilst there is still fight in your position, you are more likely to live. Vordarian refused even
after he was captured so he is not perhaps the best example.
What is the difference between unethical and ethical advertising? Unethical advertising uses falsehoods to deceive the public; ethical advertising uses truth to deceive the public.
