One scenario they talked about in my concealed carry class is you are walking to your car in a parking garage and someone runs up beside you, hits you with a tire iron, drops it, and runs away laughing. You can legally do nothing except try to report the incident.
Christian, husband, father, granddaddy, son, American. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me.

In quite a few US states and DC defence of another has to be of a family member.
Defense of property is mostly Texas.
