Oh, I know; I do remember. All the poetry I ever memorized, I memorized as songs, either from filking or from church or from some of the songs popular in the blessed heyday of folk music. Even now if we sing "Morning has Broken," I do it in the style of Cat Stevens!

Analyzing a poem to death is not a New, Modern Thing--I can still remember
bits of 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' as deconstructed at GREAT length
in my eighth grade English class, over 50 years ago. (though admittedly we
loved how the English teacher in my senior year in high school explained all
the Nurse's jokes in 'Romeo and Juliet').
