Today is the 51st birthday of Mickie Yamada. You are gently awakened by a
singing chorus of roses (you're on Cetaganda). Roses have now been
incorporated into the Celestial Garden's security system since you brought
them some DNA from the feral roses of Barrayar, but the little darlings
welcome you as they would a mother, so you have pretty much free passage
anywhere there. You have a delightful day with food specifically tailored
for your taste buds, or so you are told, and only one flavor of sweetmeats
doesn't quite work for you. But you don't say so, because you have a feeling
a ba somewhere will be in big trouble, so you drink some more tea--oh, wait,
the combined taste is what they were after, and it's great! You are given an
extensive tour by Haut/Empress Rian, and when you give them a demonstration
of origami *by folding it yourself with your own two hands* everyone seems
quite impressed. In the evening, you have a small audience with the Emperor
and a birthday cake.

Happy Birthday!!!

Rob Myers, you are 55 today, and reunited with the submarine crew you had a
tour with last year. Your outing is playing golf with them, Barrayaran
style, and the club manager swears the course has been swept recently for
land mines, leftover weapons, and various other things from the guerilla war
against the Cetagandans. The golf manager has also, very thoughtfully, left
barrels at some of the holes with drinkables in them, including something
called 'maple mead'. One of the crew, who was from Silvy Vale, swears by it
(and the next morning, at it) and says it's not very strong. You don't
believe him...but you have some anyway. And when a ball goes into the rough,
it's *really* rough, a good thing you had your club with you! The day ends
with a birthday feast at The 19th Hole, the stunningly unoriginal name for
the lodge, but it's a great one and you have a good time

Happy Birthday!!!
