There is a big difference between when I was in high-school and when my grandchildren were in high school in that there are more “ideals” that people want to be with them.
There can be preppies, but also goths.
Betans use earrings to show who they are, why not faces and body types?
Of course, some societies can go to sumptuary faces to make sure we know whose in what class.
