In F&SF, conspiracy theories are often true. But in our world, I am a much bigger believer in the Peter Principle than in crazy conspiracies.
In Lois?s worlds - what crazy conspiracies might be popular but *not* be real?

Gwynne: Interesting question, because so many of the rumours spread about Aral
by his political enemies are real, or don't go far enough.

Conspiracies (You will note a serious lack of logic in some of these - not an unusual
feature in a lot of conspiracy theories.)

Gregor was killed in Vordarian's Pretendership, and Aral substituted another
child (for extra points, an illegitimate child of Aral's) as the Emperor.

Cordelia is a Betan agent who controls Aral with devious Betan drugs and
conditioning, so that Beta controls Barrayar.

The Vorkosigan/Vorbarra line was altered by Cetagandan DNA manipulation so
that Cetaganda could control Barrayar.

Cordelia is a psychopathic killer who frequently disposed of Aral's political rivals,
and other people she didn't like. Only a few of her more spectacular efforts (Ges
Vorrutyer, Vordarian) made the headlines.

Carrying on from above, there's a secret cellar in Vorkosigan House full of heads.
(That's probably my favourite.)

Still thinking of more... it's difficult, because most of the stuff that would be
devious hidden plots in other places are public knowledge on Barrayar (like
Aral throttling the Political Officer who gave the massacre order.) And the real
conspiracies are well hidden and not even suspected.
