[LMB] On ADHD

I am either overweight or obese depending on what time of day you check my height. The BMI calculations are ridiculous. According to them my optimum weight is under 68kg (150 lbs). A couple of years ago I got down to 75 kg (165 lbs) and that was really to low for me. I feel best between 80 and 85. Anything that says a 5’2” teenage boy should weigh the same as a 90 year old grandmother is silly.

Christian, husband, father, granddaddy, son, American. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me.

The definition of obese has changed in concert with the method of measuring
it. It is always a PitA to accurately measure body-fat percentage (usually
involves dunking tests or electrical resistance) and the medical industry
decided to switch to body-mass index which is a simple calculation using
only height and weight to define obesity. Said calculation ignores body
types (mesomorph, ectomorph, etc.) and activities like weight lifting which
create a lot of dense muscle mass. So a guy with 4% body fat is judged as
obese as a couch potato who is genuinely obese with 32% body fat simply
because they're the same height and weight.
