It's been suggested that what we consider 'normal' focus was unusual among
our ancestors.  Transitioning from hunter-gathering to stationary
agriculture probably had significant effects on our inborn behavioral
tendencies.  It's been suggested that reading is similar.

What distinguishes mere variation in a trait from a 'disorder'? he asked
rhetorically.
