The women were called computers and did it all by hand, not even using mechanical calculators.

In HIDDEN FIGURES, programming was shown as grunt work, suitable for women.

Somehow that changed when the real money flowed into the field. As it so often does.

And the opposite happens--when women predominate in a field, like medicine in Russia, the women's specialties somehow always pay less than the ones that men predominate in.

You can watch how salaries change--when men moved into nursing, somehow the salaries increased, and the men just somehow ended up in the spots with higher pay.
