Many people have criticized corporations based on that.

However, changing it has many consequences people often don't consider.

Small investors will never invest in a large company without limited 
liability. They have no control over the decisions, but that would make 
them responsible for the debts.

Holding people responsible when they have no authority is a bad idea.
