Thanks for your kind words. I wish we’d been in Santa Cruz at the same time and managed to meet.

Edna will be 91 in February. I hope that she is able to get strong enough again to handle the toilet on her own. Aside from that, well . . .   .

“Getting better”.  Loaded phrase. 

The dementia won’t get better: it’s a terminal illness. She got polio at 14, and while being strong & active before it meant a better recovery, post-polio syndrome hasn’t been studied enough for there to be specialists found in even all major medical centers. She’s also got rheumatoid arthritis, deafness, a cataract she chose not to deal with, bone & gum loss . . . her dying in February wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Death with Dignity can’t be invoked because of her cognitive loss, even if anyone was able to say “yes, less than six months to live, choose your date & method”. 

It’s life, Jim, but not as we wish it.
