I learned to drive and took my test on an automatic transmission car and then I bought my first car, a 1952 Plymouth, with a manual transmission. My first adventure was driving back to school from Brooklyn to Troy, New York. I stalled multiple times on the old West Side Highway, and it ain't fun!!!

I don’t remember that happening to either of my kids (nor me). I guess we learned to drive in back streets and parking lots, and it may have taken an hour or more to learn to use the stick well.

Learning to drive a stick on the way back from the airport car-rental place could be a problem.
