Well, um, it is different.

Voting for a slate does not indicate anything else, other than that you 
can get a high number of people to support your slate.

When you get a high number of people to support having a con in your 
locale, that presumably indicates that a high number of people will 
attend this con.

Do you know of a better indicator that people are likely to attend a con 
in a given locale?
