In one of Asimov’s essays, he said that if the Michelson-Morley experiment had detected Earth’s movement through the luminiferous aether, it would have rated a footnote in the history of science instead of being groundbreaking.

Biosphere 2 has been the only experiment in a sealed ecosystem. It was a
experiment that failed because of oxygen using microbes which converted
oxygen into CO2.
People sometimes forget engineering projects begins with failures that are
examined fixed and tested till the next failure, then fix test, etc.
Gwynne: So many people don't realise that an experiment that doesn't give
the result you expected isn't a failure. Sure, it didn't work the way you wanted,
but it gave information. You learned something from it. It's given a new
direction for further experiments. No is as useful as Yes, sometimes.
