Quoting a theory from the late 19th century (150 years ago now) does
not. Of course, their theories also would not inspire much confidence in
many other areas. After all, there were people back then arguing that it
was better for transportation to build no bridges over the Mississippi,
and transport everything by boat, rather than by train.
What should give you confidence is that while climate prediction is
still being continuously refined, today's temperatures fall within the
error bars of the predictions made 20 years ago.
