[LMB] Spirit Ring and Chalion: systems of magic

In any case, the earliest known religion or system of mystic belief is
argued to be shamanism. Shamans supposedly accomplish things by
communicating with a 'spirit world' of benevolent, malevolent, and neutral
entities - but their ability to perceive and interact with this other level
of reality is a skill, either innate or taught, and many belief systems
hold that shamans can accomplish some 'spiritual' tasks on their own.

Which model of 'magic' does shamanism fall into? Magic as an individual
exerted power, or magic as the effects of petitioned spirits? It looks
like both, to me.
