How did "the squeamish" deal with the fact of blood every month, or the
bloody process of giving birth?
On the other hand, having "the vapours" is one way of dealing with a social
situation that you can't deal with, because getting angry is not womanly
either, for the upper class.
Making cutting comment, sure. Screaming like a fishwife, not so much. Note
classist metaphor, here.
