You *are* misremembering. Even before Hitler joined it, the NSDAP was 
not in any way, shape or form a branch of the international socialist 
movement. The point of it's name was the idea that workers were "better 
off" working for the glory of the nation instead of following socialists 
and striking for better wages.

Nope, not a subset of the Marxist movement. Mussolini was kicked out of 
the Italian socialist party for advocating war, yes. But he wasn't 
advocating war for the glorious global revolution, just for gaining more 
territory for Italy. Specifically, the eastern coast of the Adriatic, 
which was at the time under Austria-Hungary.
