My opinion is likely rather biased, since I'm the game's creator
and romantic fantasy is the term I coined (for lack of any other
commonly accepted terminology) to designate works like the
many wonderful books set in Velgarth.
I'm quite pleased with how Blue Rose turned out and I can
definitely say that Mercedes Lackey was one of my inspirations
for creating the world of Aldea. I hope that other fans of
Mercedes Lackey's works enjoy playing this game as much as
I enjoyed writing it.
Here is the list of inspirational reading that I sent to the authors
who I selected to write the core rulebook:
Elizabeth A. Lynn's Chronicles of Tornor:
The Watchtower
[XX] The Dancers of Arun
The Northern Girl
Diane Duane's "Tales of the Five" series:
[X] The Door into Fire
The Door into Shadow
The Door into Sunset
Mercedes Lackey:
[XX] Arrows of the Queen
Arrows Flight
Arrows Fall
Winds of Fate:
Winds of Change
Winds of Fury
[X] Owlflight
OwlSight
Owlknight
Kristen Britain:
[X] The Green Rider
First Rider's Call
Tamora Pierce:
[XX] Wild Magic
Wolf-Speaker
Emperor Mage
Realms of the Gods
Robin McKinley:
The Blue Sword
[XX] The Hero and the Crown
[X] = Recommended
[XX] *Highly* recommended
