Hmmm... I wonder if maybe it's because her other books are not as popular
as her Velgarth ones? Since she has put Velgarth on hiatus, there just
hasn't been much discussion on the list at all. Maybe it's just a
coincidence in timing though?
It seems like the Diana Tregarde novels have recently been re-released.
Weren't they OOP for a while?
Joust was a fun set of books to read, although not incredibly deep or
insightful. Ari was a good character, but I found myself getting annoyed a
couple of times at some (to me, anyway) very blatant out-of-character
behavior from him. Aket-ten's personality just didn't seem very
appropriate for the setting somehow, so while I normally like her type of
character, it just didn't fit right for me this time. And she got really
annoying in book 4. I think I ended up liking Heklatis, the "Akkadian
Healer" / foreign magus, the best even though he was not as well-developed
as other characters. He always had amusing and novel comments to make
about any given situation.
I actually really really liked the Obsidian Trilogy (_The Outstretched
Shadow_, _To Light a Candle_, _When Darkness Falls_). The books were put
together very well and almost everything in them was interesting. The
elves especially. And the magic system was refreshingly different. They
are probably my favorite Misty books outside of her Velgarth stuff, even
though they are a collaboration. You can definitely see the Misty
influences in the books when you read them though. :)
One of these days I'm going to have to write up a review for _When
Darkness Falls_.
Well, I think that's about enough for now.
