That stinks. :(  Most librarians aren't like that, in my experience (I've 
got an MLS, and actually worked as a librarian for a while).

Does the library have a website possibly?  Ours has a good one, I can 
search for books, put them on hold, suggest things to purchase, and request 
Interlibrary Loans, all online.  It's awesome, and if we end up outside the 
city limits when we move, I will really miss the library.
