As Lois repeatedly tells us, Barrayaran
society is not late 20th/21st Century
America.

When I was at school, fifty odd years ago,
several of my contemporaries lost parents.
They were out of school two days - day of
death, day of funeral. More would have
been considered odd, in England in the 50s.
Maybe in Barrayar too.
