OT, but not so good news - California's wine country is aflame as we speak.

Marina recommends some Cape wines. May I add most
Pinotages are excellent (Pinotage is a South
African grape developed in the 1020s and 30s and
used for wine making from the 1940s). Kanonkop,
which was one of the first vineyards to plant
Pinotage, makes superb (if somewhat expensive)
varietal wines and their Pinotages should be
tasted. They also make a (slightly) less expensive
Cape Blend (containing Pinotage) called "Kadette"
which we buy whenever we can.

Pinotage is a red grape, but Mellasat Vineyards,
just to the East of Paarl, make a superb White
Pinotage - hard to find outside the Western Cape
but well worth the search.

I'll be back in the Cape Winelands in January -
watch out for reports.
